This exquisite Gesha coffee comes to us from the dedicated hands of Luz Helena Salazar, who has spent the last 20 years cultivating coffee at her family-owned farms in Armenia, Quindio, Colombia. Luz is a passionate producer and wife to Jairo Arcila, a respected dry mill manager. Inspired by her husband’s knowledge and dedication, Luz has spent years mastering the art of growing high-quality coffee.
Her farm, Maracay, spans 8 hectares and sits at an altitude of 1450 meters above sea level, a prime location for specialty coffee production. This Gesha coffee, specifically grown at her La Leona farm, is carefully hand-picked, with only the ripest cherries selected. After picking, the coffee is meticulously hand-sorted to remove any defects, ensuring only the best cherries are processed. To preserve the beans’ delicate flavours, they are sun-dried on raised beds in temperature-controlled conditions until the perfect moisture content is achieved.
With the support of Cofinet, Luz has implemented farm practices focused on quality and sustainability. Cofinet processes her ripe cherries at La Pradera, their dedicated processing station, to ensure consistency and excellence. Beyond coffee, Luz is a compassionate community member, spending time with friends and participating in support groups for vulnerable people in her area.
At our café, we’re committed to sourcing directly from local producers like Luz Helena through our partnership with Cofinet.
